Bacterial Vaginosis: Why Natural Remedies?

Bacterial Vaginosis: Why Natural Remedies?

By:

Natural remedies are considered the best way to treat bacterial vaginosis. Women who experience bacterial vaginosis once are more susceptible to it returning again at some point.

Once a woman has been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis, most often she will be given antibiotics by her doctor. On the surface, this may not seem like such a bad thing. However, taking them does have their downsides. One reason in particular why antibiotics are given to treat bacterial vaginosis is because it's a quick fix. Women who have this condition don't want to live with it for one more second. Therefore, this is the treatment given. We live in a society that favors quick fixes or treating the source of the problem.

Bacterial vaginosis occurs when the bacteria in the vagina is unbalanced. Specifically, the vagina experiences an over-growth of unhealthy bacteria which is what causes symptoms, such as itchiness, vaginal discharge, soreness, and foul smells. When the environment in the vagina is healthy, the different types of bacteria are in the right proportions to one another. The healthy bacteria keeps the unhealthy bacteria in check.

While antibiotics eliminate this unhealthy bacteria, they also eliminate the healthy kind. This translates into the symptoms disappearing very quickly, but in a short period of time it will grow back without there being any good bacteria to stop it. The result is that bacterial vaginosis has returned again, and now we are back to square one.
