Backflow Testing

By:

The modern day water system is a miracle of scientific discovery and human perseverance, but it is not entirely without flaw. Occasionally, errors in the flow of water can occur and cause contamination and, in rare cases, death. This is the horror of backflow. To ensure your water supply has not been contaminated with backflow, you must do regular backflow testing and make sure your backflow prevention system is up to date.

We've come a long way from the Greeks in five hundred BC. During ancient times, contamination in water supplies occurred often and caused thousands of deaths yearly. Much of the reason the bubonic plague was able to spread during the Dark Ages was because of the weak securities in the water system of the time. It wasn't until humans came up with a backflow prevention system that we were regularly able to avoid terrible incidents like backflow.

Because of the advent of backflow prevention systems, we do not have to worry quite as much as ancient humans did. However, it does not mean we are completely out of the deep end, so to speak. We must always be wary of the worst possibilities to ensure that they will happen. In this case, we must constantly be doing backflow testing.

It is advised that you have your backflow system tested annually. In almost every city, you will find private and government companies that are dedicated to testing, installing and repairing backflow prevention systems. To get your backflow testing underway, you only need to search your local phonebook or Google. A certified tester will go over your entire backflow prevention system, checking valves, pipes for any undesirable back siphonage and back pressure. These are common problems if your house is low ground, which may cause the pressure and gravity to be greater in your water supply, than in your outward flow. Testers will also test your main water supply for any contaminates. If you are clear of any problems, be sure to schedule your next appointment ahead so you don't forget.

Modern day humans have it much better than humans in the past. However, it is vital that we not forget the dangers of backflow contamination so that we can learn from our past mistakes and move forward as humans. It is mandatory to get your backflow tested every year, so be sure you do not forget about it. If you suspect any problems in your backflow prevention system, call your local experts today and get the problem resolved before it is too late.
