Back Acne And What You Can Do To Counter It

By:

Acne is a common problem for both adults and teenagers and the most common perception of acne is that it breaks out on the face. But, if you have acne you know that it can occur in other places too like the chest and the back.

While back and chest acne is not as apparent to the outside observer it can nevertheless be extremely annoying for those suffering from it. Unfortunately, back and chest acne is frequently harder to treat than the acne that you have on your face and traditional cleaners and treatments which you use for the treatment of facial acne are generally not as effective when it comes to dealing with acne on your back. As if this were not bad enough, since your back and chest are normally covered by clothing, you may experience increased irritation as your clothes rub against your spots.

Just as with facial acne you will need a daily treatment routine for acne on your back and the majority of common regimens include a cleanser to be followed by a moisturizer. Often, it is of course harder to apply medication to your back acne simply because of where its location and so you may need the help of a family member or to use a special lotion applicator.

You will have to watch the sort of clothing that you wear. Tight-fitting shirts or rough material will rub against your skin and irritate your acne leading to increasing oil production and thus more breakouts. You should also pay attention to the type of detergent and fabric softener that you use. Occasionally detergents and fabric softeners will irritate back acne and so you may need to try different brands or change to a fragrance and dye free variety.

Watch what you carry anything on you back. For children in school, and for those people who go backpacking and hiking, heavy backpacks can make back acne very much worse. If you are experiencing a rise in the number of acne breakouts you may want to stop carrying a backpack for a while. If this is difficult then you might find that a shoulder bag helps in the interim.

A dermatologist or doctor can help you with both diagnosis and treatment of back acne and can start by determining just how bad your acne is and also assessing your skin type. Whether your skin is, for example, dry or oily or what is called a combination skin plays an important part deciding upon the best treatment. Your dermatologist or doctor will also want to hear a history of your acne condition, including such as how long you have suffered from acne and how frequently breakouts happen. Armed with this information he or she can work out the best treatment and medication to cure your individual case of acne.
