Baby Proofing Your Home Before The Stork Arrives

By:

You never have to tell people that already have children how it can change the way you live in a home.
Only those who become new parents will be amazed at the differences when a new born is brought into the home. A new baby will alter every aspect of their life. Everything from the places you go to the hours that you sleep will be affected by this tiny new person. Your life is no longer your own, but hinges on the whims of the baby. The first six months are chaotic to say the least just learning to cope with a new child even if you just knew you were ready for the changes and these are the most peaceful months because they sleep so much of the time. After they want out of the confining space of their crib and play pin, they will soon enough discover the rest of the home and want to be an active participant.

Most babies begin to crawl and climb at about six months of age. Usually from six months to one year many babies begin learning to walk. This is when the real fun begins. Anything that you have failed to baby proof in the previous months they will surely find. Many parents suffer some of their first anxiety attacks during this period of growth. They will learn to open drawers, pull off anything they can reach that is not nailed down, find the smallest particles of anything to put into your mouth and proceed to eat it. This is when a new parent will discover how many things they missed during their baby proofing process.

Electrical outlets and electrical cords are always a source of amazement for crawlers and toddlers. These are two of the most dangerous items in the home that a baby will find. If you allow your young one to crawl and toddle about, is a to you to make sure that these items are not accessible to them. Electrical outlets that are not in use should always be covered. Electrical cords from lamp's or other electrical items should be well hidden in out of reach whenever possible. If they can not see it, then they cannot be tempted by it.

Sweeping and vacuuming are all so extremely important when you have little ones crawling or walking around. If there is anything on the floor they will be sure to find it. What you keep in your lower cabinets is a source for great concern even if the cabinets are equipped with baby latches. Anything that is kept in lower cabinets or drawers should be nothing that will harm the baby.

No matter how hard a new parent tries to make sure that everything in their home is safe for the baby, as the child grows there will always be new safety measures to take. The older they get, the smarter they get, and the more inquisitive they get. It is all a part of the natural growing process. By the time your first baby is ready for preschool, you just might be prepared for the next baby.
