Baby Bok Choy With Sherry And Prosciutto Side Dish
Were seeing a recent trend of Asian infusions into many recipes, particularly in Asian style salads. As is often the case, when we have gotten used to certain cuisines, and not much seems to be different or interesting, a new fusion element can breath life into what has become commonplace. Take this delicious Baby Bok Choy With Sherry And Prosciutto Side Dish Recipe for example. What would probably have been a simple cabbage or romaine lettuce recipe enjoys a whole new dimension of taste with the simple yet, elegant substitution of bok-choy, a succulent variety of lettuce from Asia. These subtle flavors blend to create a delicious side dish that, with the addition of a bit more meat, for instance, could serve as a main dish all by itself.
Ingredients:
* 1 tbsp olive oil
* 4 medium cloves garlic, thinly sliced
* 6 heads baby bok-choy, halved lengthwise
* 1/8 tsp kosher salt, more as needed
* 1/4 cup dry sherry
* 1/2 cup chicken broth
* 1/4 tsp sugar
* 1 tbsp soy sauce
* 1 tsp cornstarch (activated with 1 tbsp cold water)
* 1/2 cup thinly sliced prosciutto, finely chopped
Procedure:
1. In a large pan combined oil and garlic, and saut on medium heat, stirring frequently, about 1 minute.
2. Add bok choy. Turn in oil to coat and start cooking process, seasoning with salt, til leaves start to wilt.
3. Add sherry, continually turning bok-choy.
4. Add broth, sugar, and soy sauce, stir, and reduce heat to a medium simmer.
5. Cover and simmer until stalks are crisp/tender, up to 5 minutes.
6. Transfer bok-choy to separate plate, retaining broth in pan.
7. Add corn starch and whisk into broth, and simmer until thick, about 30 seconds.
8. Remove from heat, add bok-choy back, add prosciutto, and toss everything together.
9. Adjust seasoning to taste with salt, and serve hot.
Tips:
The key to cooking this Baby Bok Choy With Sherry And Prosciutto Side Dish Recipe is subtlety and gentleness. Be careful not to let the leaves wilt too much, or for the sauce to get overdone. Its delicateness is what makes this recipe so exquisite. Enjoy!
