Babies Can Now Chew Their Way To Good Oral Health

By:

My baby is now 10 months old. He has five teeth. Should we buy him a tooth brush? Is it too early? Would he just swallow the toothpaste? How healthy and safe is that, even if we buy a brand meant for young kids? Are we paranoid or should we pay attention to all the studies that recommend babies teeth need cleaning just like ours do? Would buying a tooth brush really help?

While we were grappling with these issues, we came across a press release from a company in the UK called Brush-Baby, promoting a whole range of interesting oral hygiene products meant for babies and toddlers.

Brush-Baby originally entered the market with a chewable tooth brush for toddlers. The product design was an inspiration-or should we say the desperate attempt-of a mother trying to solve the same problems we were just thinking about. Dominique Tillen developed the chewable tooth brush when she found her young daughter was not interested in using the mini version of the adult tooth brush available in the market. Her invention offers all the benefits of brushing with a normal tooth brush.

For Babies 0-16 months parents can use finger-sleeve type dental wipes to help keep baby's teeth clean.
From 10 months onwards, up to 3 years, the chewable tooth brush can take care cleaning both teeth and gums. It also massages gums in the process. The cute little design fits the baby's mouth and her hands easily. It does not require any toothpaste. The chewable tooth brush is made of Silicone, just like the regular teething rings and is BPA free. It will help soothe teething gums and you can pop it in the fridge and cool it if your baby prefers that.
From 3 to 6 years, the company recommends the Floss Brush with a combination of short and long bristles to clean the surface as well as between the teeth and into the gum line.

There are also two tooth paste types, one for babies and toddlers and other for older kids. Both types contain xylitol, a compound known for its cavity preventing qualities.

The products were originally only available in the UK. But now they can be purchased directly online as well.
