Awareness Of Women's Hair Loss

By:

It's a surprising fact that women's hair loss occurs more than you may realize. The truth about female hair loss is that it happens close to as much as it does for men, even though men's hair loss gets more attention about it. So why don't you hear about it as often?

There are not many, if any, media programming on the subject of female hair loss problems. A woman's hair can begin to thin due to a number of different causes. So what we'll do is talk more about this condition seen in women.

For men, you know there is male pattern hair loss. As you can imagine, some women experience the same condition, and it is commonly called female pattern hair loss. It's not same as androgenic alopecia, but it's similar to it. For women, it's just that the hair loss pattern is not the same as men. The usualy progression in men is that there are specific spots where it begins and then moves out to other places. What is seen in women is the thinning out all over the top.

You can say the distinction for women is that there's really no distinct pattern.

Pregnancy is another condition that can have a huge impact on a woman's hair. While some women enjoy increased hair growth, others deal with the opposite. After childbirth, the hair will begin to shed pretty fast for the women who experienced more hair growth.

Naturally, if a mother doesn't know about this it can be a little bit startling. However once the body chemistry and hormones return to normal then things will settle down with the hair. The important thing is to avoid over-reacting to it.

Yet one other hair loss condition women experience is, telogen effluvium. Temporary shedding is another term for this condition. What makes this condition so alarming is that the shedding of hair happens fast. This temporary shedding can be triggered by a traumatic event, or even after something like surgery. Another condition that can cause this is higher than normal emotional distress. Men are not as lucky because with this condition, the hair will grow back and be fine after the distress or trauma are over. However if it's a negative, then that is that you don't know if it'll happen to you. Women's hair loss does not get as much publicity as men's hair loss does. This is unfortunate because just as many women are affected by hair loss as men. We've covered only a few causes for hair loss in women. Yet... we've talked about what is seen in high percentages in women.
