Awareness Is The Key To Your Success In Growing A Ligustrum Bonsai

Growing a miniature tree is such an achievement for every plant grower because it takes a long time and patience before you can actually have a miniature tree. There are various tree species available to be propagated as a bonsai tree, and of them is the ligustrum bonsai.

As ligustrum bonsai grows, they produce scented white flowers and small rounded fruits. There are various varieties of ligustrum bonsai and some of them include Japanese or Wax privet (Ligustrum japonicum), Common privet (L. vulgare), Oval leaf privet (L. ovalifolium), Chinese privet (L. sinense), and Glossy privet (L. lucidum).

Propagating a ligustrum bonsai is such an easy task. Here are some useful information that will guide you in your success in growing a ligustrum bonsai:

Start your miniature tree from cuttings, grafts, seedlings, or through air-layering. Semi-ripe cuttings can be taken during summertime. Hardwood cuttings should be taken during the winter period. Air-layering should be done during late spring. For ligustrum seeds, you have to sow them outdoors during the growth season.

Prepare a soil mixture that has good components. The soil mixture must have the capability to hold enough moisture for the growing miniature tree and that will promote proper drainage of excess amounts of water.

Supply adequate amounts of water to your bonsai until the water will flow out through the drainage holes of the pot, this is to ensure that the water have reached the deepest roots. Giving too much water is not advisable because this will cause drowning of your ligustrum bonsai, which can eventually lead to its weakness.

You should make use of a pot that has drainage holes beneath it. This will help the soil flush out excess water contents in it. If the water cannot get out from the pot, it will accumulate inside it and the entire root system will get soaked for quite some time, and this event will further lead to root rotting.

Expose your ligustrum bonsai under direct morning sunlight and provide afternoon shade so that the leaves will not get burned. Sunlight will help your miniature tree for the production of its own food so that it can carry out important processes necessary for its survival and growth.

You should purchase an all purpose fertilizer. The fertilizer should be applied every two weeks in the season of spring because this will supply nourishment necessary for its proper growth and development. For indoor ligustrum bonsai trees, they should be fertilized once a month every winter season. Make sure you give adequate amounts of fertilizer to ensure proper supplementation of nutrients.

You have to transfer your miniature tree yearly in a new and bigger bonsai pot so that you can prevent your miniature tree to experience pot bound, and for their roots to have enough space for them to grow and develop healthily.

Wiring is important so that you can form your ligustrum bonsai on what you want to follow. Wiring your miniature tree should be done between spring and summer season.
