Avoid Wasting Water No Matter Where You Live

By:

Sometimes we think that there will always be an endless supply of water at our disposal. We could not be more wrong. Although our planet is covered by two thirds water, it is not the fresh water that we use for so many things. Even the ocean water that is so vast and plentiful is becoming polluted through carelessness. Fresh water is not so plentiful as we might think and in some places in the world there are constant shortages. Even the water they manage to get enough of at certain times of the year is often polluted and unfit for human consumption and use without being treated first.

Here in America we are certainly accustomed to having all of the clean water we want. However, in recent years shortages are becoming more commonplace. Places that do not normally have that much difficulty keeping there water levels up, like the state of Georgia, have begun to have problems during the hottest months of the year because of a lack of rainfall. Of course, Georgia is not the only southern state that has had droughts that have affected their water supply.

California has had droughts off and on for years and there have been ongoing battles about sending the water from up state to the drought stricken areas in the southern region. Cities like Los Angeles that are so heavily populated are having a difficult time having enough water supply to maintain their needs. Many people have swimming pools that they love and feel they can not do without. To have a continuous green lawn requires frequent watering. Many people that live in drought stricken areas have to give up some of these luxuries just to have enough water to go around.

When droughts come for these places that already have little enough water to sustain them, things like watering the lawn and washing the car in the driveway are not so important anymore. Taking a bath and showering becomes a short affair. Even washing clothes and dishes might be done only when necessary and making sure the loads are completely full is a must. The people living in places where water can be scarce at certain times are learning to adjust themselves to not having as much as they always need. It might be only a matter of time until people who live in areas with plenty of water end up doing the same things because the possibility of having to share with the places that do not have plenty could be likely in the future.
