Avoid Awkward Silences - First Date Questions To Ask A Guy To Get To Know Him

One of the worst experiences that can happen when you are out on a first date with a guy, is to have one of those really long and drawn out awkward silences. First dates can be fun, make you nervous, but they can also be dreadful when the silence looms and you really don't know what to do to make it go away. You want your first date with a guy to go off without a hitch, you want him to like you enough to want to have a second date. However, if there are too many of those awkward silences... then getting that second date may be just a wish.

Just about everyone finds that first dates are kind of awkward. You spend a lot of time trying to find the right thing to wear. You worry about whether or not you will make a good impression on the guy you are seeing. And you also hope that he does not turn out to be some kind of a jerk. Add in the fact that you have to worry about making conversation on a first date... and it can be a little overwhelming.

Here are first date questions you can ask to avoid those awkward silences when on a first date with a guy:

1. Ask him about what he likes to do when he is not at work.

This can give you some insight into what he really enjoys doing and it can also give you some insight on whether or not he is the workaholic type of guy. Guys that spend all of their time at work generally don't do a whole lot outside of the work place and that is probably something that you are going to want to know if you are going to keep on dating him. Plus, if he has some things that he is passionate about, this gives him the opportunity to talk about those things and people tend to be able to go on and on about the things that they are passionate about.

2. Ask him about his friends and what they are like.

This is another way to gain some insight into what kind of a guy he really is as well as to squash any awkward silences. If he reveals that he hangs out with guys that like to spend their time drinking and partying, then chances are... that is what he likes to do as well. You can gain a lot of insight about a person by what their friends are like and people tend to be able to talk pretty freely about their buddies.

3. Ask him what he would do if he could do anything at all without limitations.

It can be fun to kind of sit back and talk about the things that you would do if you did not have all of the responsibilities that you have, plus you get to see another side of the guy you are on a date with. You never know when he might surprise you and reveal that if he did not have to go to the office every day and make deals, he would travel the world with just a back pack. This can be an interesting way to spark some conversation and not feel like you have to force an answer.
