Avocados Are Awesome

By:

Avocados are an awesome vegetable or fruit. They seem to be an awesome vegetable, because they are not sweet like a fruit.

But, then they seem like a fruit, because they are the fruit of a tree. Whatever they are, there are a lot of good things about them.

If you like mayonnaise on your sandwich, then you should try a mashed one fourth of an avocado. It makes a very tasty mayo, and since avocados are 85% fat, they make a natural mayonnaise.

The best way to cut open an avocado is to cut it in half lengthwise until you get to the pit. Then, you can twist and turn it and separate the two pieces from each other.

The pit will still be in one of the avocado halves. You can get it out by squeezing the sides of that piece and it will just pop out.

Or, you can hit the pit with the blade of a sharp knife. It should catch on the pit and then you can twist it out. However, you should be very careful and keep your other hand away, so you don't accidentally cut your hand.

The thick black skin of certain avocados can be discarded. But, the thin green skin of another variety can be eaten or peeled off, because it is so thin.

Avocados have a mild creamy taste and you can have a nutritious treat by sprinkling some salty spices that you like and eat out of the half with a spoon.

When you are picking an avocado, it's safest to pick one that is green and firm. Then, you can take it home, set it on the counter and wait a few days for it to feel slightly soft to the touch.

At that point, it will be ripe enough to use. If you pick one that is soft at the store, it's O.K., but you run the risk of it being too ripe. Some people still use their avocados even though there are some black spots inside.

The types of oils that are in avocados are beneficial to your health and include essential fatty acids and certain omegas. Some people say that you can lose weight eating an avocado and some people say that the fat you eat is the fat you wear.

Determine for yourself what is the case for you. If you like them, you will receive not only good oils for lubrication of joints and healthiness of skin, but also many vitamins, minerals, protein, and phyto-nutrients.

There are so many delicious ways to use avocados. They can be cubed and added to salsas and salads. Or, they can be quartered, then thinly sliced for sandwiches, pita pockets, wraps, and tortillas.

They also make a great guacamole dip for chips or for using as a spread. You can add chopped onions, garlic, salsa, lemon or lime juice, and salt to add extra flavor.

Recently, many people have also discovered that by putting an avocado into a food processor along with some cocoa powder, sweetener, and vanilla or spices, you can make a creamy chocolate pudding or mousse. No one will ever know that it came from a mild, green avocado.

It's not too smart to try cooking avocados as this will destroy the nutritional benefits of the oils and it will look dark and unappealing.

So, save the avocado to use as a topping after cooking a casserole or soup. And then plan on eating it right away since avocados start turning black and not good if left out too long.

Enjoy the many benefits and uses for avocados. They are delicious and so good for you.
