Avenue Productions, Inc Tips for Aspiring Actors & Models

It can be a real tricky thing to put yourself out there as an aspiring model or actor. The connections are hard to find, there are a lot of ducks to put in a row before you even get your first audition, and there can be some unscrupulous agencies out there looking to take the money you haven't even made. But there are ways of finding the good folks out there before you even try and tackle the runway, commercial, or TV show.

Should you take the dive into the talent pool, you'll find a lot of agencies offering up inflatable toys to keep you afloat. Don't doubt that many of those have slow leaks in them though. Because many unscrupulous talent agencies are just looking for your money, and have no intention of keeping your head above water.

At the very least, check to see that the agency is fully licensed. Don't give any kind of registration fee up front. Study the kinds of clients your agency has worked with. If there are familiar names, that's a good sign the agency is on the level. "The House of Broken Glass," for example, is not a client you'll want to work for.

So there's all kinds of work, and you need to work out with your agency what kind of work will work best for you. Print or runway work might be best for some, while others seek the whirr of the TV cameras. Which are everywhere, it seems like. USA Network and Fox are both filming shows in Southern Florida -- "Burn Notice" and "The Glades" -- and shows like that always need good talent.

Avenue Productions, Inc Tips for Aspiring Actors & Models

There's certainly the idea that models and actors are larger than life creatures. But agencies just as often are looking for those everyday people that are more familiar to the rest of us. And that face can be on someone of any age, gender, or experience level. We know what we want. Perhaps it's you.

It's worth noting that no agency can guarantee work. Nor should it. Because a lot of that is up to you. The agency is just there to make sure headshots are in order and introductions are made. There's a fierce thread of self-reliance in the talent game, and having an agency on your side makes it a little bit easier.
