Questioning the severity of strange sounds coming from your car by having an automotive service performed is a smart immediate response. High-Pitched Squealing - Most of todays modern cars have a metal squeal tab built right into the brakes that alerts you when the pads have worn too thin. The wear-indicator pin rubs against the rotor, making a squealing sound. The sound may be intermittent at first, causing confusion as to the source. But as you continue to drive, the sound will become more consistent youll hear it every time you step on the brakes.

* What to do: Have the thickness of the brake pads checked and change them if necessary. The longer you drive with worn pads, the more likely it is that the rotors will be damaged.

Mechanical Sound with Loose Steering If you feel that your steering wheel has loosened up and you hear clicks in the front of your vehicle at the same time, it probably means there are worn joints. Most commonly, either the tie rod ends or the upper and lower ball joints have worn out.

* What to do: Its important that you make an appointment right away for an automotive repair as this could result in some form of auto failure while driving with your car in this condition.

Mechanical, Knocking Sound When Turning If you hear a knocking, metallic noise coming from the front of your vehicle when making turns, it often signifies that the CV joint is worn or failing.

* What to do: Get the CV joints checked by a trained mechanic. They can determine whether it is serious enough to recommend a full automotive service and inspection. This should be done sooner rather than later to prevent further damage and/or a potential accident.
