Automatic Gate Installation

By:

The quality of an automatic gate installation determines how successfully the gate does its job. It may need to open and close a few times or a few hundred times a day, depending on the purpose it serves. Sometimes it might mean a matter of convenience, as when returning home at the end of a work day. Other times it might mean a matter of safety, as in the unfortunate scenario of a burglar trying to break in. It could also mean a matter of national security, with attempted terrorist attacks at airports and government buildings. No matter the reason for the gate, it is there to serve a purpose.

Not just anyone can do the install properly. First of all, a post hole needs to be dug for the gate post. The hole needs to be straight, not too deep and not to shallow. Then the gate needs to be properly secured in the hole with a mortar compound. After the gate is in place, the majority of the heavy lifting is over, but the full job of installation is far from complete.

The sensor device needs to be buried in the ground. How deep to bury it and how far it should be from the control box depends upon the type, brand, and size of the automatic gate. A professional installer should determine these specific measurements in order to ensure proper functionality of the gate, safety of any gate operators and passers-through, and to protect the electronic equipment from the elements.

One of the most important components of the automatic gate installation is the setup of the gate control box. If the gate control box is hung carelessly, it can affect the swing of the gate, and the gate might not open all the way or latch completely. The wires from the keypad, exit sensor, and power source all connect to the control box. If any of these wires are installed incorrectly, the gate will definitely not function properly, if at all.

Some industries that commonly use automatic gates include aviation, commercial, industrial, government, and military. Other services that rely upon high quality te installation are airport runways, fuel terminals, law enforcement, and traffic control sites. Recently changes have been made to homeland security standards, and many sites need to upgrade and revamp their automatic gates.

Trusted automatic gate manufacturers include HySecurity, Chamberlain, Lift Master, Linear, OSCO, Powermaster, and ARMR.
