Autism Treatment Heavy Metals Testing And Urine Tests For Treating Autism

This video is number 4 in my heavy metal testing series, and I will break this down into 2 parts. So we will cover urine testing. There are many people who prefer to do urine tests as a baseline to screen for heavy metals. But most of the time, between 98% and 99% of the time a very high percentage of the time, nothing shows up. So rarely do we ever see an elevated marker for metals on a baseline urine test for heavy metals. So clearly this method of testing for heavy metal exposure or heavy metals in the body just is not effective as a determining factor. But, I will utilize a baseline urine test for doing what is called a challenge.

It is quite common to do something called a challenge, and many doctors will use an IV chelator like DMPS or EDTA or an oral chelator such as DMSA or DMPS as an agent to try and provoke the body into releasing stored heavy metals. This is known as a provocation challenge and the hope is that you can figure out how much metal excretion you are having at this point in time. And it is common procedure when you do a challenge, and I have done this for years, to start with a baseline urine test prior, and I know usually the results will be normal. And then once I have administered a chelating and detoxifying agent such as DMPS or EDTA, whether using an oral or IV chelator, I will do a follow up urine test. Then I can review the pre-challenge urine test against the post-challenge urine test to be able to see how much metal is being excreted from this challenge.

Please realize that the amount of metals that are released in that initial test is not really an indicator of how much is still remaining in the body. It enables us to determine how much was released initially, that’s it. It is also not an indicator of how long we need to keep doing detoxification therapy either and your next challenge can result in another release of metals as well. This initial challenge tells us that we have stored metals in the body that need this provoking agent, or chelator, to help the body release it. And chelators can come in various forms, which we will explore in the next ½ of this video.
