Australia Honors The Indian Heritage

Australia is a true melting pot of cultures and in honor of Diwali also known as the Indian Festival of Lights the Melbourne airport decorated and presented their own celebration to honor the Indian people and their heritage. Drums beat and dancers danced in celebration creating not just a feeling of true cultural diversity but also raising awareness about the Indian culture in this melting pot of a city. Travelers loved the festivities and individuals who were Indian travelers enjoyed the Diwali celebration even more.

It's a culture that has contributed a lot to the city of Melbourne and has truly influenced the entire community. The Indian market is one that has had a significant impact on the airport which sees approximately 2100 passengers a week from this country. Realizing this airport officials felt they wanted to honor these travelers with a bit of their tradition by honoring this holiday of Indian significance with dcor, music, and dance from this area of the world.

Diwali is a holiday which signifies the triumph of good over evil and is created to show the power of knowledge over ignorance. It is a time of year that's celebrated by Indians all over the globe. Victoria is one of the regions that has seen a significant influx of Indian population throughout its community over the past few years and the current population is thought to be almost 10% Indian at this point in time.

The Indians also have quite a significant impact on Australias tourism as well, as it is believed that 11% of the tourist money is coming from Indians who are visiting the area. This has a substantial impact on the region financially and it's just one of the many reasons that the Melbourne Airport is celebrating Diwali in 2011. And the airport intends to keep this tradition for years to come.

This isn't the airports first Diwali celebration as they began this tradition last year and was well received by the public as a whole. Indians appreciate the honor of their heritage and it helps to boost awareness of all who reside in Australia that it's the melting pot of this unique region that makes Melbourne one of the most amazing and prosperous cities in the world. The Melbourne Airport is helping to bring cultures together and this should be recognized as something that not only benefits one group of people but the community as a whole.
