Australia Farmers Hold Much Appeal For City-bred Girls

Farmers in Australia are finding love on the web and the girls are clamoring for their attention.

Outback males antidote to man drought in Australian cities. Single males from the Australian outbacks are now discovering the joys of online dating, giving hope for many female singles to find a prospective mate.

Online dating in Australia has rooms for rural farmers to socialize and find dates on the web, a welcome development for urban women in their late 20s and early 30s who have been lamenting the gender imbalance in the big cities.

Some female singles even dont mind going to the rural areas themselves in search of eligible men. Brie Petersen organizes weekend tours called Thank Goodness He's A Country Boy for single women from the metropolitan areas to visit the countryside and be introduced to lonely farmers at a local pub.

According to the female clients of Petersen, men from the country are much sought-after because they are perceived to be more gallant and romantic than their city-bred counterparts.

Online dating is a growing business in Australia, with the number of active members of dating websites expected to reach 2 million by 2020, according to Datingsitesreview.com.
Many of these dating websites charge their members a monthly fee. The ones that are free rely on advertisements to generate revenue.

A study of the mechanics of online romance by an Australian university revealed that in 1 month, online dating websites logged 1 million new visitors. There are over 50 high-traffic dating websites in Australia, and 170 more that target specific beliefs and sexual preferences.

In a survey of 7,000 Australians, 25 percent were found to have used online dating to meet singles. Over 70 percent of those surveyed were looking for a serious relationship. Online dating is responsible for 15 percent of relationships formed in the past year.

Australian online daters dont limit themselves to online dating websites to find romance. Social media are also increasingly being used as a vehicle to meet singles. A 2010 Nielsen study showed that in April of that year, Australians spent the most number of hours on Facebook daily (7 hours) compared to the rest of the world, and 63 percent of Australians are members of the social networking giant.

While the older-men-seeking-younger-women mentality holds true for Australians as elsewhere around the world, Australian males were found to be seeking a significantly smaller age gap compared to other nationalities. This was the finding of a 2010 study conducted by researchers from the Department of Psychology at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff.

Another interesting finding from the study which was published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior is that Australian males are the least likely to rule out the possibility of romancing older women compared to other men from other countries.

Unlike their male counterparts, however, the females in the study said they would rather date men closer to their age. The results are the same for all studies done across all countries and age groups, prompting lead researcher Dr. Michael Dunn to dispel the so-called womens cougar tendencies as just myth.
