Aunt Mabel And Shaped Cake Tins

Aunt Mabel And Shaped Cake Tins

By:

When I was a boy my mother used to take my sister and myself to see our Aunt Mabel at least once, and usually twice a week. Aunt Mabel lived by herself in a small, terraced house only a couple of streets away, and my mother would pop round there with us in tow, for tea and cakes. While the two ladies were enjoying a gossip my sister and I would work our way through the cakes that Aunt Mabel had baked. Sometimes they were sticky buns, or fairy cakes with icing and Smarties, or cakes like a Victoria sponge filled with cream or jam. The one thing all these cakes had in common was that they were always round, I remember.

Then, one Sunday Aunt Mabel brought out her latest cake to our astonished faces. She said it was her birthday and wanted to make something special, and she had! She had made a cake that looked like a Teddy Bear! My sister and I were amazed and delighted. Apparently, Aunt Mabel had used a large cake tin for the body, a smaller one for the head, and some Choux pastry tins for the arms and legs. The face was decorated with coloured icing for the eyes, nose and mouth. My sister and I were so taken with the magnificence of this cake that we couldnt bear to eat it, although eventually we did.

Aunt Mabel had discovered the art of making shaped cakes, and to-day such cakes still delight children, and are easy to make in many more different, and more sophisticated designs. You can obtain good quality, aluminium cake tins that will produce cakes in the shape of, a car, a butterfly, a rabbit, a babies bottle, a guitar, a golf bag with clubs, a football, a fish, a fairy castle, a mouse, a party hat, a star, a tractor, a train, a pirate ship, a princesss carriage, and a number of characters like Winnie the Pooh.

Shaped cake tins are an easy way to create a cake for a special occasion such as a birthday, wedding or anniversary. For a childs birthday cake you can use one or more character shaped cake tins. You find out what characters are popular with your child. It might be Little Mermaid, Jasmine of Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White, the Care Bears, Timothy the Train, Bob the Builder, or Batman, for example. You can then search online for suppliers and make a cake that is your own creation and unique; something your child will remember.
