Auditory Memory Training Exercises

By:

Has this ever happened to you? You are just about ready to walk out the door headed for the store when two different people yell and out to you by illness that they would like for you to bring back from the store for them. By the time you get to the store you forgot what the second person ask you for and by the time you get finished shopping you completely forget that either one of them ask you for anything in the first place. If this sounds like you on occasion then relaxed because there is help for you.

Probably the most important thing that you can do is simply to occasionally exercise this sequence of events by practicing using specific auditory exercises. For instance, most radio stations now have a web presence so use it to your advantage.

Listening to your favorite music station will obviously make this exercise much more pleasant for you. You simply want to listen to this radio station long enough to hear them play five songs. Your challenge then is to wait through the next commercial after the end of that fifth song and then when the sixth song begins to play take paper and pencil and write down the titles of his many of the five songs as you can remember. Then go back to their website and compare your list with the error list. This is truly a challenge for your memory.

Over a period of time once you are scoring very well with fine songs then gradually increase your challenge to 10 songs and then eventually 15 songs. You will find that this is an excellent exercise for your memory and one that will spill over into other areas of your life increasing the efficiency of your memory in general.

Another kind of auditory memory training exercise is done with another person. Have them take a list of several items long enough to be a challenge to you and have them read the list out what held to you. No fair cheating now. You can't start repeating the list out what held until they are finished. In this specific exercise you are also not allowed to write the list down and then read it out. This is an auditory exercise. In this instance the auditory part is twofold with you hearing someone else say the list then you hearing yourself say the list out well.

Your job, quite obviously, is just to then repeat the list back to them. You may think that is challenging enough but once you have done this correctly one time then you want to repeat the list again from memory a second and then a third time. Again, this is all part of training the brain to file things properly.

Remember a key aspect of doing auditory exercises. Just as when you were a child in school repeating something over and over will not only help you remember that specific piece of information but it will also make it easier for your mind to memorize additional things in the future.

Never lose sight of the fact that you really do possess a powerful mind. Quite often, in spite of getting older, or suffering from some kind of disease, or even from excessive negative stress your mind has an enormous capacity to re-gain its youthful potential. Simply make a concerted effort to practice good old fashion repetition.
