Within the wide umbrella of hairstyles comes the infinite amount of hair colours. Natural or toned, highlighted or dip dyed, each colour will have a vast number of variations too. This is one of the most common misconceptions of red hair especially the different between red and auburn auburn is set to be one of the most stylish colours of 2012, make sure youre prepared!
While auburn is in fact a shade of red hair, it has a brown tint with the possibility to occur naturally, those born with auburn hair are more likely to be of northern and western European backgrounds.
Auburn tones will give a soft, warm look and tends to bring the focus to the eyes and face shape. The rich red undertone makes the colour unique from a more common brown hair colour, while other tones of auburn can incorporate shades of strawberry to those who were originally blonde to create more of a deep effect.
Dying hair is a dramatic change for anyone, especially if you are going from one extreme to the other for example, going from blonde to brunette. The best way to do this (and the healthiest for the hair) is to start with some highlights, gradually including more and more streaks each time they are re-done. For example, start off with a T-section of highlights (the front of the head and across the centre), then a more blended half head before moving to a full head of colour.
As with any hair colour that isnt natural, there is some maintenance involved in keeping auburn hair looking its best. To make sure it is at its shiniest and richest tone, colour should be reapplied every 6 8 weeks. The disadvantage to this is obviously the expense; however this can be sorted by opting for an alternative, non-surgical solution for example, a human hair piece. This has the added benefit of being a non-permanent decision, which is perfect for those who arent 100% sure they are ready for a big style change.
Most people tend to opt for a more auburn toned colour for the winter months its richness is inviting and has warm associations, but finding the perfect shade involves looking at your skin tone and always consulting a colourist or stylist to ensure you make the best decision. The best way to decide which shade will suit you is by trying on hair pieces for a few weeks to be sure that you are happy.
