Atul Kulkarni - Most Versatile Actors

Atul Kulkarni is one of the most versatile actors of Bollywood. He has given many award winning performances to his credit for his roles in Bollywood films like Chandni bar (2001), Rang de basanti (2006) and Delhi6 (2009). He was born on 10th September 1965.

He was born in Belgaum, Karnataka. His father was a businessperson and his mother, a housewife. He went to Haribhai Devkiran high school in Solapur, Maharashtra. His completed his junior college from Belgaum and extended his stay there to complete his engineering.

Due to his lack of interest in the subject, he moved back to Solapur. He finally graduated in English from D.A.V College. In Solapur, he joined a theatre group called Natya Aradhana.

From the National School of Drama, he did his Post Graduate Diploma course in Working Arts. He has some theatre performances to his credit like Samudra, Natak and Zale Mokale Aabhal.

His debut film in Bollywood was Hey ram (2000). It was directed by Kamal Hassan. Kamal Hassan, Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukerji starred in the film. The film depicts the rape and murder Saketh Rams wife during the Calcutta riots. Saketh Ram blames Gandhi for the entire episode.

He sets out to kill him. The film was released on 18th February 2000. Then in line his next film was Kairee (2000), released on 29th September .The director is Amol Palekar.

The storyline is as follows: Tani and Kamli are two sisters who live in Maharashtra. This film traces their life journey. Tani marries Bhaurao from the village and lives comfortably there. Kamli marries a person from Mumbai and lives there with her husband, brother and her school-going daughter.

Her health deteriorates and she too eventually passes away. Allah ke bande is his upcoming film. It is supposed to be released on 19th November. The film is directed by Faruk Kabir.

The stars are Zakhir Hussain, Sharman Joshie and Vikram Gokhle. The content traces the life journey of two boys who commit their first murder at the age of 12. They are put into juvenile prison. When they are released, they want to return to their slums where they grew up.

Dhyasparva (2001) is his Marathi film. It was again directed by Amol Palekar. His co-stars were Seema Biswas, Mohan Gokhale and Kishore Kadam. Vaastupurush (2003) was another Marathi flick in which he acted. The film was released in 2003. The director was Sumitra Bhave.

His co-stars were Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Uttara Baokar and Siddharth Daftardar. Raam (2006) was his Telegu film. The film was directed by Nimmala Shankar. His co-stars were Ali, Hrishita Bhatt and Brahmanandam. Maati maay (2006) is his Marathi film directed by Chitra Palekar. The film is a drama. The other stars in the film are Mukta Bhave, Nandita Das and Kshitij Gavande.

His next Marathi flick was the very popular Valu (2008). Directed by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni, the film is about a forest villager sent to a small village to catch a wild bull. His co-stars are Bharati Achrekar and Mohan Agashe. His next Marathi film was Natarang (2010).

It was a big hit and Atul received critical acclaim for his performance. Thalappavu (2008) was his Malyalam flick. This was director Madhupals debut film. He worked with actors Prithviraj and Santha devi in this film.

The director is Ravi Jhadav. Also starring in the film are Priya Arun, Vibhawari deshpande and Kishore Kadam. The film is about a poor man who loses his job and then decides to start a theatre troupe. There are very few actors with Atul Kulkarnis caliber.

Being an acting freak, he started acting on stage right from his childhood days. In college, too he enthusiastically performed in public gatherings. He worked in backstage for two years. Then he finally got a chance to act.

Atul is married to Gitanjali Kulkarni. He has quite a few awards to his credit. He won the National Award for the best actor in a supporting role in 2000 for his performance in Hey ram (2000).

He also won the National Award for the best actor in a supporting role for his performance in Chandni bar (2001). In 2001, Filmfare nominated him for the best actor in a supporting role award in Hey ram (2000).
