Attracting Luck Into Your Golf Game

By:

A regular topic of conversation upon the golf course is that of luck. You hit a great shot and your playing partner says "fantastic, what a shot" and you reply "I got lucky". Now my response to this is always that you didn't just get lucky; rather, you put yourself in a position whereby you could be the recipient of luck. Nevertheless, when it happens to me I still say that I got lucky!

Why so? Because I like to think that I am lucky. I am a firm believer that if you think that you are lucky then you will be lucky. I am not ignoring the fact that I did make that club selection, shot selection, visualized the ball landing there, committed to the shot and executed it; that is all true. If I hadn't done that I couldn't have gotten lucky. But to get a result that was really exceptionally good, I had to get lucky as well.

The fact is that luck only happens when you invite its presence by placing yourself in its path. You do this by opening your mind and your emotions to its proximity. Luck is always close by, waiting patiently to be seen and welcomed. Only those who are blind to luck do not enjoy its benefits.

I have always believed this to be true. And now research has proven this fact. Richard Wiseman has studied both lucky and unlucky people for over ten years and his findings are quite fascinating. See http://shine.yahoo.com/event/lifeslittlepleasures/how-to-get-lucky-2389062/ to read in greater detail. I consider myself to be a very lucky person, not least of all because I am lucky enough to believe in luck!

Actually this short article was brought to my attention the other day by my partner who has been a party to many a discussion about the link between luck and one's own expectations. I find that the effect of feeling lucky or unlucky are highlighted in the game of golf. For example, how many times have you played with someone who states aloud to you "I always hit it in the water here" and they go on to do exactly that? This is an obvious example of a golfer creating their own bad luck.

In contrast, every golfer has observed another golfer as they brush the ground with their practice strokes, a focused expression on their face, stand back, zoom in upon their target, and then create a beautiful shot. They too created their own luck, although this time it was good instead of bad.

Golf provides an arena which gives immediate feedback of your mental and emotional state. Whether you are feeling lucky or unlucky, the position of the golf ball will usually reflect your thoughts. If you want to attract more luck into your golf game then all you have to do is learn a few mental strategies so as to open your mind to its blessings.

To attract luck into your golf game you do not only see with your two eyes. You have to have heart. You have to employ your third eye in the process of attracting luck. But this process is easy to learn so long as you are willing to do so.
