At Home Remedies Or Professional Drain Services?

By:

Everyone has had an experience with a clogged drain. Whether it is a toilet, a bathtub drain, or a sink, a clogged drain can be quite a hassle, and a mess. There are a few different ways you can go about unclogging your drain, including at home remedies, store bought solutions, or hiring a professional that offers drain services, sewer repair, and maybe even hydrojetting.

The first thing you should do if you have a drain that is not draining properly is to try to remove the guard over the drain and make sure it is clean. Also, if possible, you can try to manually remove any debris or hair that might be clogging your drain. For a kitchen sink clog, you can simply detach the pipes under your sink. Just make sure to have plenty of bucket available for the dirty water that will come pouring out! For a toilet, use a plunger.

If these initial methods do not work, you can try a simple at home recipe for drain cleaner. If there is no standing water, pour one cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by three cups of boiling water. You will probably have to repeat this process a few times. If the water is not draining, you can pour some washing soda into the water and wait until that works its way through the drain. Once the water has drained through, repeat the baking soda process several times. You can search online for more home remedies and specific instructions for each method.

When the home remedies do not seem to be working, you can try purchasing a commercial drain cleaner from the store. These products have very harsh chemicals that burn a hole through whatever is causing the clog. Be careful with these products and be sure to read all the instructions before you use them. If you have leftovers, keep them out of reach from children.

If you still have a clog that is not draining after all these methods, or maybe a drain that frequently gets clogged, it is time to hire a professional that offers drain services. Some plumbing companies even specialize in cleaning drains. They will probably bring in an electric plumber's snake to clear the pipes. If it is your sewer that is having troubles, make sure the plumbing company you hire has experience in sewer repair. A company that offers hydrojetting will be proficient at unblocking any clogged sewer lines. Be sure to hire a reputable and experienced plumbing company that is proficient at dealing with your needs.
