Astounding Revelations Come From Deep Sleep

For as long as there is a yin there will be a yang, a light side and a dark side. We must have both in equal amounts to maintain homeostasis.

Staying up all through the night sleeping for an hour when the sun starts to come up and then running to first period is terribly hard on your body, and especially your brain. Sleep is the time in which we allow our brains to repair and strengthen themselves.

Along with that we also are allowing our muscles and nervous system the same thing. Sleep is where we develop muscle memory and, more importantly, regular memory.

There are five stages of sleep, one through four and then REM. It was thought that people only dreamed while in REM sleep, this however was shown to be incorrect.

In stage two, slow wave sleep, we are actually dreaming. These dreams are a bit different from REM dream.

Slow wave sleep is the time when we start building memories. We look back through the day and we are weighing different actions we may have performed, the ones that had good reactions will be stored and turned into memory and muscle memory.

If you are training to be a skater, a pool player, or anything for that matter, practicing before bed will help you to remember proper technique when you awake. Slow wave sleep is very important for cognitive development.

REM dreams are quite a bit different. These dreams take what we have learned from our slow wave sleep and they simulate events that could possible happen.

So slow wave is like judging the past and REM is like testing the future. Most REM dreams are going to be scary or aggravating this is because during this sleep our amygdala is more active than any other part of the brain.

The amygdala triggers emotion faster than your conscious does, and these emotions are generally set to protect us, thus we react defensively or offensively for flight or fight. This is why most REM dreams are more negative than other dreams.

Researchers think that this portion of sleeping is actually like a training simulation. We are preparing ourselves to react to something that could possibly happen in the future.

Studies also showed one more amazing thing about REM, when woken out of it subjects experience a 60 percent increase in creative thought. So if you want to dream about something and you want to remember your dreams, meditate into sleep and keep in mind what you want to dream about.

Remembering your dreams will help you draw off of creative ideas you never even knew you had. Thomas Edison is said to have created the light bulb after waking from REM sleep, but that is because he had a very unique sleep pattern.
