Astounding History Of Food

By:

About 12 thousand years ago some grunting primitive had a wonderful idea, this was agriculture. The first major civilizations, the Assyrians and Babylonians, were both built off of one thing, and that was wheat.

Once man had the idea to stock pile food, it was only a matter of time before things started really developing. Not only were they stock piling food, but they were aiming to create excess amounts of food for times of hardship and famine.

About a thousand years after people started growing huge crops of wheat, (9000 B.C.) someone genius had a pretty disturbing thought.

He said, "self, if we can manage plants and how, the way we do... well why come we ain't manage now farm animals or livestock." I imagine he was talking to himself and had a slight hick accent.

Even though he was a bit of hick, his idea was still brilliant. He didn't know it, but he had just carved out the path for future companies like McDonalds and KFC to capitalize on, unfortunately he did not know anything about patenting ideas or he would have been very successful by now.

The first years of food development was slow going. There was a lot of trial and error with many different plants, this would often result in fatal sickness and sometimes even fatal death.

Many people don't know, but most of the foods you eat are pretty dang poisonous. It is true, for example try feeding some tomato leaves to a stray cat, or eating an unripe potato.

These are both rich in a substance called glycoalkaloids, and unfortunately these are very poisonous. So for legal purposes of liability, I have to say, do not ingest any raw or unripe potatoes and also do not kill stray cats with tomato leaves.

By year 5000 thousand, people started figuring out how to eat and grow potatoes along with olives, avocadoes and maize and tortillas (in certain countries, but not Mexico because at this time the inhabitants were still doodling around with wild berries and spirits of their forefathers.)

Yes a lot happened within that 4 thousand year period, but things started getting really exciting around the turn of the century. Around year one, people started recording recipes, like they were important or something.

Another great thing that came with the turn of the century was shellfish. These are very high in omega-3s, and consequently quite good for brain development?

Let's fast forward past fifth century pretzels and seventeenth century soda water. 1780 this was a great year for America.

81 of course in the 17th century still, this is when we started playing with soda water. Three years later tomatoes were figured out, and people in America started eating them like heathens.
