Asthma - Health And Safety

By:

Asthma is usually defined as an inflammatory disease of the air passages, making them prone to narrowing and increased mucus production. It becomes difficult to move air in and out of the lungs. Symptoms include wheeze, shortness of breath, chest tightness and cough.
The major factors contributing to asthma are inflammation of the airway lining, tightening of the muscles that wrap around the airways

Genetic
Genetic is a term that refers to genes- the characteristics inherited from a family member.
Allergic
An allergen is a substance that reacts with the body's immune system and causes an allergic reaction.
Wheezing
Wheezing is the whistling sound made during breathing when the airways are blocked or compressed.
Types and Causes of Asthma
Asthma is a disease of the lung that affects the bronchial tubes or airways. The term "asthma" comes from the Greek meaning, "to breathe hard." Medical terminology defines the condition as reversible obstructive airway disease (ROAD). Asthma is most likely a result of genetic susceptibility, which probably involves several genes and various environmental factors.
Airborne allergens, such as pollen, animal dander, mold, cockroaches and dust mites
Respiratory infections, such as the common cold
Physical activity (exercise-induced asthma)
Cold air
Air pollutants and irritants such as smoke
certain medications, including beta blockers, aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

What's bronchial asthma- Bronchial asthma is a disease of the lungs in which an obstructive ventilation disturbance of the respiratory passages evokes a feeling of shortness of breath.
What is exercise-induced asthma- Exercise-induced asthma is a form of asthma that some people have during or after physical activity. Exercise-induced asthma is common.
What is adult-onset asthma- Adult onset asthma generally is the onset of asthma for the first time in someone of middle age or older. Adult-onset asthma develops after age 20.
Asthma Triggers and Precautions
Common triggering elements are usually airborne. They cause difficulty in breathing, panting with sound or wheezing, some chest pains, coughing, some pressure on the chest. Triggers come in various forms. Mold growths on moist surfaces are one. When there's lack of free air circulation and humidity is too much in a room or area, asthma can be triggered. Hence, clean exhaust fans necessary.
