Ascots - A Reinvented Trend From Yesteryears

By:

Most people are only aware of the necktie as neckwear. It is however not the only neckwear because there are others, although the necktie is what many are more accustomed to. The other types of neckwear include ascots and bolo ties among others.

The ascot, the necktie and the bowtie are all forms of neckwear which originated from the cravat which traces its origin from Croatia in the 16th centaury. The ascot derives its name from the British Race horse race, the Royal Ascot. The Royal Ascot is usually a formal occasion and the men who attend it have to put on morning coats.

You can put on the ascot with casual sports wear and with formal day wear too and it can also be worn as a part of an orderly morning suit that can be worn to such functions as weddings. Ascots are in most cases silk fabrics that are available in different colors and many patterns or designs. In recent years, the ascot has made a return and some men view it as their favourite accessory.
So is the ascot a reinvented trend from yesteryears? It certainly looks like it is.

In the yesteryears, the ascot was more closely associated with a higher social standard although it was not as stigmatized as it is today. Then most men wore ties and the ascot was more of a casual form of neckwear. The ascot should make a return but with no attachments to social class.

The ascot is in many cases considered as a summer accessory although there is spring, autumn and winter types that are made of heavier material unlike the summer wear ascots that are made of lightweight silk or rayon. The ascot is a great wear for a relaxed day unlike the regular tie which would be stuffy and chocking for all day wear and can be worn over a shirt or a coat.

Although the ascot will never really return as it once was, it is certainly not gone forever and there are classy men out there who are wearing it and look great in it. Everything we wear today is a derivation of what we wore in the yesteryears although there are some changes to contemporary fashion that has come down through the years, the ascot included. To date, students at the United States Army officer Candidate School still wear ascots as part of their uniform.

The new generations of men are more daring, trendier and ready to experiment with fashion than the older generation and this has made ascots of different colors to become more popular and fashionable. The older generation were tied down to traditional colors of gray, navy blue, black and mostly the darker colors however the new generation is changing that. Don't be shy in trying on an ascot because it will completely positively change the way you look.
