Article Marketing Strategies For Newbies: Tips For Submitting Your First Articles

By:

I know that there are some unique challenges that newbies face as they are getting started and writing their first articles.

Here is a common question that I receive:

"I've just started article marketing. I've written my first article, and I'm waiting to get a few more before doing any submissions. It takes me hours and hours to write just one article. Can you give any article marketing strategies that will help a newbie like me?"

Certainly--I'd be happy to! First of all, I feel your pain. I've been article marketing for about 10 years, but I remember what it was like when I started.

Ugh--the agony of writing my first articles! It would take me days of steady work just to get them the way I wanted.

I want you to know that this is normal. Most people who start article marketing have not written anything for a very long time--perhaps since they were in school.

You may have never written an article in your life (I hadn't either). But that doesn't mean that you can't learn to write articles.

Here are a few article marketing strategies for beginners:

1 - Pick your topic. Look for a specific skill that you can teach your readers about your niche. Your goal with your articles is always to teach your target readers.

As you are getting started, it is a great idea to write an article that introduces your readers to your topic and gives a general overview.

2 - Think about the various types of articles and choose a format to use as a guide.

There are some popular types of articles:

=> The "How To" article--teaches the reader how to do a specific skill.

=> The "list" article--includes a numbered list within the article, accompanied by an introductory and closing paragraph. Sometimes these are called "Top 5" or "Top 10" articles.

Both the "How To" and the "Top 5 List" articles are easy to work with and can really help you get the ball rolling.

3 - Use an outline. It doesn't have to be fancy or complicated--just jot down a few ideas that you want to include in your article. Place your ideas in the order that you would like them to appear. This is like a road map for your article--it really helps keep you focused and can help you write your article faster.

4 - Use a word count goal. If you don't, then you may be writing forever. Some of us like to wax poetic on our topic--a word count limit helps keep us on track. Choose a word count that is somewhere between 400 to 800 words.

5 - Just write. Don't worry about how long it takes and anticipate that your first few articles will take longer than you would like.

6 - Put your first draft away for at least 24 hours. Give your mind a break from it. Then, a day or so later review your article again and look for any errors to correct or changes that you would like to make.

7 - After you have written your first article, submit it. You don't need to wait to accumulate several articles to submit all at once. There is a certain satisfaction you will feel in getting your first article all the way through the process and off of your plate.

Just write, proofread, submit, and know that you will improve as time goes on. The first articles are the hardest. It gets easier, I promise!
