Submitting articles to the article directories is a frequently used method for getting traffic. It has been popular since the birth of the Internet and is still an effective traffic generation strategy even in our Web 2.0 times.

There are a number of questions over the simplest method of submitting articles for maximum traffic and effectiveness. Which are the most effective methods?

Initially, you can submit your articles to the best known article directory, EzineArticles. This site has a well earned reputation of being the top online. For this very reason, marketers and Google love it.

Many marketers get annoyed because of the strict submissions guidelines and long approval times.

It's not a problem.

As soon as your articles are listed in EzineArticles you immediately receive benefits from it. Articles in EzineArticles usually rank highly in Google, even without backlinks to them.

Create a few backlinks and you will find your articles ranking well for moderately competitive keywords. Quite often you don't even need any backlinks for your articles to rank well.

When your article has been published you must do some straightforward backlinking to it to give it a boost up the search engines.

To start with, take your EzineArticle author RSS feed and submit it to RSS directories. You can do it by hand or use a tool. Just choose the top ten directories in Google for now if you are doing it by hand. You can always submit to more later on, so make sure you keep track of which ones you have added your feed to.

You can also use one of the many ping sites to ping your article. You will give EzineArticles some benefit, but it will also benefit your article.

You can also social bookmark your article. There are many tools that will do this or you can do it yourself. A well written article could be submitted to Digg or Stumbleupon to get additional links and traffic.

Of course, there are other article directories on the Internet, but none of them carry the weight of EzineArticles. Google Knoll is currently very popular with marketers. As the present moment though, these don't seem to be ranking as well as Ezinearticles, but it is a good means to get the Google to notice your web sites.

It isn't worth it submitting articles by hand to any more directories except the top half a dozen best known ones. Most of the rest get minimal traffic it is not worthwhile, except for the backlink. So you should make sure these submissions are outsourced or automated.

If you are article marketing then you need to make sure they are on Ezinearticles for the best visitors. Add in some backlinking to your article and you you will get traffic from you good rankings.
