Art In Watercolor

By:

For one female artist, when she was younger she loved drawing horses as much as she loved riding them. Leading her to a career painting horses and other subjects of the natural world is her early training combined with her many years of experience as an artist. Usually, her pastel and watercolor paintings would bear images of horses, hens, reindeer, and dogs.

She was only 11 when her family from Philadelphia moved to the present county. She had a father who was a commercial artist who painted as a hobby just like her mother and sister.

Drawing is real important to an artist according to her father. Those details are evident in the structure of the animals she paints.

What she does is use cats and dogs as subjects since she loves painting animals. The artist and her husband in their present home have two dogs and a cat as well. Apart from this she paints pets for private commissions.

Distinctly standing out in her paintings is light may it be the bright white of daylight or the darker amber hues of evening. She said she cares a lot about having a sense of light in her paintings. Her preference for watercolor can be associated with this.

She said that watercolor is a series of transparent washes that go over the paper. Through the paint, the white paper becomes vibrant.

Using oil paint means creating light in another fashion. Painting everything around it is how light is revealed.

What is necessary when artists use watercolor is to paint around the white. The process that follows the use of oil is painting in the dark shadows and then adding the light.

With her career, there is a desire from the artist to take on the challenge of luminosity in oil paintings. According to her, something she loves involves the impressionists and she would like some time spent painting in oil.

From the former town, what inspires her today is her move to the present location at the countryside. What she takes are photographs of old farmhouses and landscapes in the foothills as she explores the back roads.

It worries her whenever there are old farmhouses that get torn down. When it comes to acknowledging and protecting the old houses, she feels the urgent need to paint them. In this case she loves the historic architecture.

Still life paintings are another favorite of this passionate artist. Texture and detail are things she uses subtly instead of painting using a photographic style or realism. When it comes to her paintings of pets, these focus a lot on the detail and the animal's facial expressions.

As well as attending a known school of art, she also went to the Maryland institute college of art in Baltimore. Her line of work for much of her career was as a nurse although her professional painting stint began at age 25.

As the years passed, she established her painting reputation in the areas of architectural subjects, florals, portraits, and pets. Per week, she spends one day as a nurse.
