Art For The Investor

By:

At one point in time an oil painting was just decorative. However over the years, fine art has developed into an industry worth putting money into. We all know the famous artists of the past, and if you are able to aquire one of the drawings, for example by Picasso or Dali, it is a known fact that in years to come these pieces will go up in value.

But what about the more recent artists that have become recognized in recent years in the art world? How do you know which ones will become sought after in the future?

An art investor can do research and find the popularity of which artist is in vogue, and make a higher return by purchasing that artist's original work in the early days. Many artists are finding ways to duplicate their artwork, this will only make the value of that piece go down or have little value. Duplicated drawings are of little value.

There has been many forms of art painted over the centuries from modern to folk art. In which, folk art is now becoming more popular than ever. A folk artist is someone who has never had art lessons. One day, out of the blue they pick up a chalk and begin to paint. Many folk artists are older people and some have been through difficult times and discovered that through the paintings they are able to express themselves on canvas and board which has the added bonus of giving them an extra income. Throughout the U.S.A. you can find folk artists whose works are in high demand. What they worked on years before and sold for little income now brings larger amounts. Most of this type of painter never double their work. Without the education and knowledge from some form of art school it is harder for this style of painter to make many similar paintings.

Reselling art has become a worldwide industry. These days the are many art investors and collectors visiting exhibitions just to purchase a particular style of art.It is important to carefully check and not to make quick decisions. There are many false works, and by studying art magazines and gallery newspapers much information can be learnt. Going online is also a very useful way to research some of the many artists.

Art will hold it's own, better than the stock market does today. However, whether you are a keen collector or investor, art work should be something that you love. Some investors buy watercolours and put them in a closet until the value is at a maximum to resell and make a good return. But more favourable results will be realized if you find a painting that has some deep feeling. After all, this is really what art is all about. Everyone would enjoy making a large a mount of money but the majority of the time, there is more to an art purchase than just the money.
