Aroma oils, also known as essential oils or fragrance oils, are highly concentrated herbal essences which are extracted from plants. They have numerous domestic, therapeutic and cosmetic uses. Certain fragrance oils are essential oils diluted in carrier oil such as olive oil or almond oil while others may be synthetic scents made using chemicals.
Aroma oils give your house a natural, refreshing scent. When compared to room sprays, oil diffusers make scents more subtle and longer-lasting. A simple diffuser is the fastest way to disperse an essential oil in an enclosed space. To disperse scent over a very small area, place one or two drops of oil on a cotton ball. This will gradually release the scent as air passes over it. There are highly expensive nebulizers that can convert aroma oils into aerosol.
Pure essential oils such as clove, thyme and cinnamon possess antibacterial properties and are highly effective as disinfectants. They could be used for disinfecting floors in bathrooms and kitchens. To prepare an eco-friendly, home-made disinfectant, mix five to ten drops of disinfecting aroma oil in cup of white vinegar diluted in a gallon of water. You can also add some pine, juniper or lemon oil to the mix to create fresh, ever-lasting aroma. Essential oils such as tea tree, chamomile, eucalyptus or lavender can be used on minor wounds, burns or sunburns to relieve pain and to remove skin infection. Lavender and tea tree oil possess excellent anti-bacterial properties. Chamomile and eucalyptus oils help in soothing painful skin.
Essential oils like lavender, cedar or peppermint have numerous therapeutic benefits and help in the treatment of pain, stress and nausea. While citrus scents can be energizing and highly rejuvenating, floral or spice scents can be really relaxing. Smells help in evoking memories and improving your mood. Mix a few drops of aroma oil to your bath, or give yourself a relaxing massage with almond or olive oil scented with aroma oil. Add your favorite aroma oil to an unscented body lotion or use diluted essential oils on your skin for a refreshing, new look!
