A dramatic opera in seven scenes and three acts, Franz Joseph Haydn's Armida was performed several times between 1784 and 1788 at the Esterhza Court Theatre. During Haydns lifetime it was performed in various places such as Bratislava, Vienna, Turin, Budapest etc. The dramatic opera went out of performance for some time and was later revived in the late 60s in Bern stage production and a Cologne concert.

This Italian opera Armida, composed by Franz Joseph Haydn, (March 31, 1732 - May 31, 1809), went on stage initially in the Esterhza, Court Theatre on February 26, 1784. In the 1770s and 80s Joseph Haydn on behalf of his employer managed an opera group which performed various operas annually. He was initially known as a famous composer of symphonies. Armida was the last and best opera created by Haydn.

Armida is a mythical story of a sorceress who attracts men to visit her island prison. Rene Fleming stars opposite six different tenors in the main role of this Rossini opera. Rossinis opera Armida will be presented live on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT, live from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City just for a single day. Mary Zimmerman directs the epic which according to her has immense visual elements and enchanting qualities.

The composer is Gioachino Rossini and Librettist is Giovanni Schmidt. Sung in Italian there will be titles in German, English and Spanish. You can book your Armida tickets online.
