Arm Lift And Thigh Lift - Skin Tightening Procedures After Weight Loss

By:

You may achieve a dramatic reduction in weight as a result of diet exercise or surgery but you will also have to handle its unsightly byproduct-lots of saggy, dropping skin. Fortunately plastic surgery can complete your weight loss program by trimming you up and tightening your skin. Arm lifts and thigh lifts are most popular surgeries after serious amount of weight loss.

Brachioplasty or arm lift as it is popularly known is a procedure designed to get rid of extra, stretched out skin on your upper arms. An anesthetic, usually either an intravenous sedative or general anesthesia is needed to get this procedure done.

The cosmetic surgeon will make an incision along the inside of your arm from the armpit to the elbow. The incision can also be made at the back of the arm. If you feel that you need to get rid of the additional fat from your arms, your surgeon can suck out the excess by liposuction at this point.

The tissue will then be reshaped and tightened by placing permanent sutures. The excess arm skin is removed and stretches the residual skin to sew it back up.It normally takes an hour or two to complete and can be performed in an outpatient facility or a hospital. Once the bandages and stitches are removed you can get back to work or other normal activities (excluding exercise) within a week.

The recovery process may include some swelling and bruising as well as pain that can be managed with medications. Unfortunately the main side effect of an arm lift is the scar left on the arm. But you have to decide whether you have to have tight arms with a long scar or flabby arms with no scar.

You can get rid of loose and dimpled skin on your upper legs too. Usually there are three main types of thigh lifts and they are the areas of the inner thigh, the bilateral thigh, and the medial thigh. Each of them target slightly different areas and vary in the exact positioning and extent of the incision.

An incision is made somewhere between the thigh and the pubic area when the thigh lift is performed. Some excess skin (and fat by means of liposuction, if desired) is excised and the remaining skin is pulled up to meet at the incision and is stitched back together. Reshaping the leg and reducing the look of sagging skin and cellulite is what the lift aims to do.

The recovery for a thigh lift is slower than the arm lift but it is similar. Before you can go back to work it takes at least three weeks and another three weeks before the swelling really starts to subside. It may be a little uncomfortable to sit or lay on your back for awhile and when you do heal, there will be scars. But the scars can be easily hidden by swimsuit lines or underwear lines. Losing weight is surely a rewarding experience but getting rid of the excess saggy skin after weight loss seems impossible.
