Arkansas Real Estate - Have You Considered A Vineyard?

By:

One of the best ways to decide whether or not you should choose a home in a specific locale is quite simply to visit the area first. Many people put Arkansas real estate at the top of their lists when looking for a new home (or retirement haven).

This is for a number of reasons, including the fact that there is such a wide variety of communities and lifestyle choices available.

In the northwest portion of the state (the Ozarks region), for example, you'll find everything from enormous developments with spectacular lakeside and golf course homes to cozy condominium apartments, low-maintenance townhouses and even cottages. In addition to hiking, living in the Ozarks offers great trout fishing, folk festivals, antiquing and golfing.

The nearby River Valley region includes the highest point in the state, where you can indulge in even more outdoor activities like camping and rock climbing. Vineyards are prolific in this area known as Arkansas's wine country, where you can sample not only a variety of wines, but also jellies and vinegar products. Somehow most people never think of owing a vineyard when considering Arkansas real estate.

With the diverse landscapes, low taxes, top medical facilities and reasonable cost of living, Arkansas real estate is especially attractive to people seeking a certain quality of life and who enjoy being active and healthy.

In fact, the 'Natural State' has had an unemployment rate better than the national average and its recent labor force growth exceeded that of the national average by more than 7 percent. There was also a correlating per capita income gain of over 10 percent (putting Arkansas in the top 10 for best personal incomes across America), while the cost of living was 9 points lower than the national average.

Putting it all into perspective, for the same lifestyle in Manhattan, you'd need an annual income of $153,000 -- compared to $50,000 in Little Rock. Life in Los Angeles, Chicago or Washington, D.C. would cost you a good $105,000 per year, while you could have it all in Little Rock for less than half that amount.

You've got the infrastructures and attractions of growing cities, the choice of traditional farming communities or small towns, all with housing prices and utilities that are usually substantially less than those you will find in other comparable areas.

If you're lucky enough to have a choice of where you're moving, flip the standard equation on its head. Instead of forcing your lifestyle and income to fit into a geographic location, look long and hard to find the place (whether Arkansas or not) that can offer you a style of living that you will enjoy and that you can truly afford.
