Are Your Floors Damaged By Mopping And Shampooing

By:

There are so many housekeeping jobs in the home that have to be done over and over again, it would be really difficult to pinpoint just one that is more annoying to continue doing than another. It can seem sometimes that when we get one room in the home clean, before you can even get the rest of them done, the first one needs cleaning once more. This is never truer than a home that has several children or even pets in residence. For some, housecleaning can be the nightmare they dream about because they dread it so bad.

Putting a few rules in place for a home that has many occupants are always helpful to keep things in order, but no matter how many rules there are, there will always be work to be done. The most repetitive jobs are of course, dishes, laundry, dusting, and the ever popular, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. These are jobs that must be done on almost a daily basis if you want to keep your home neat and tidy.

Many parents can teach their kids to do certain chores and this will help out to some degree if they can be taught to do it well. Much of the time a parent will have to go back over what the kids do for it to get done well enough. This is fine for the most part because they will learn as they go, hopefully. Teaching them to sweep or vacuum will probably be just fine, but the mopping or carpet shampooing would better be left to the adults.

Mopping tile, linoleum, or hardwood floors has to be done, maybe not everyday, but the way it is done is important. You should not over saturate the floors while you mop these surfaces because if you are not able to get all of the water out and it gets wet underneath the surfaces, it can cause the tiles to looses or hardwoods to buckle. It could even cause mold if it is done this way often enough.

The same can be said to those who shampoo their own carpets. The amount of water sprayed into the carpet should be limited to what is recommended for the shampooer. Too much water in carpets that does not dry quickly enough can cause the fiber backing to break down prematurely and can also cause mold and many other spores that may be harmful to you and your home or floors.
