Are You Selling A Realistic Dream?

By:

Multilevel marketing companies sometimes get a bad reputation. This reputation is not necessarily due to anything the company did, but rather things that its representatives do. One of the most damaging things a representative can do is sell and unrealistic dream.

People join multilevel marketing companies for many reasons, but, probably one of the most common is to do something that will replace their current income so they can stay home. Indeed, this dream is possible with multilevel marketing. The problem is that some representatives are not realistic in how long it might take for this dream can come true.

Being in multilevel marketing and being on a diet have some very interesting similarities. You start because you are not happy with your current state. In the case of diet, you are not happy with your weight. In the case of multilevel marketing, you are not happy with your job or some other current state of your life. When you first start a diet, you are often pretty successful at first and probably lose five or 10 pounds pretty quickly. (You know it is mostly water, but pounds are pounds.) When you first start in multilevel marketing you can experience some early success as well. You are enthusiastic, this is something new, you can talk to your friends and family and, because they want to help you, some of them will join you.

Then, it happens. Your diet stalls. Days go by and you don't lose any more weight even though you are trying. The same thing can happen in multilevel marketing. You have talked to everyone you know. Now you have to start the real work. Using leads, or some other method to reach people that might be interest in your product. But these people don't know you, so it takes a lot more effort on your part to explain the company. Some days everyone seems to love your products, the next day no one wants to even talk to you. Like when you are one a diet, when you assess what you accomplished at the end of month, it may not seem like you are getting anywhere—on the diet or in your business. Remember, even if you only lost one pound or only added one person to your business, you have accomplished something. (Granted if you go months without losing any weight or adding anyone to the business, you might need to reassess what you are doing!)

Like a diet, however, slow and steady wins the race. Whether you add one person or 10 people, whether you lose one pound or 10 pounds, whether it takes you one month or six months, if you persist you will be successful. But, like a diet, it is not realistic to think that you can lose 50 pounds in one month or replace your income in one month. However, with persistence and even minimal success, you can accomplish your goal. Like finally getting to your ideal weight—it takes time, sacrifice, and a lot of work, but it is definitely worth it in the end!
