Are You Pushing Your Partner Away? Tips To Ensure You Don't Make Them Run!

By:

When a couple starts a new relationship, everything seems fresh, new and full of potential. Unfortunately, that giddy new love doesn't last for very long, and soon, reality sets in. Still, plenty of people manage to be successful at nurturing long term relationships. If your own relationship is struggling, you may be pushing your partner away with your behaviour or personality. Here are some helpful tips that you can use to ensure that you aren't making your partner run the other way.

Confidence is Everything!

When a relationship is new, it's not at all uncommon for your partner to be drawn to you because you are little bit needy. This is even more common for men. Men tend to have an unexplainable need to save women who seem a bit on the edge. It speaks to their protective instincts. However, as the novelty wears off, having a needy partner can cause them to run. They wake up and realise that this isn't an equal relationship, and start to question their ability to maintain this level of commitment. Dump this act and find your confidence.

Confidence isn't just something that women need, either. In fact, being confident is one of the most attractive traits to a woman. While making good money and being physically attractive certainly play a part, you've probably seen plenty of men with neither that are in successful relationships. If you look closer, you will probably find that they are extremely confident. A confident man will rarely push his partner away.

Bring something to the Table

A relationship needs to be a balanced dance of give and take in order to be a long term success. If you aren't bringing anything to the table for your partner, you are going to push them away. There is no formula, however, for contributing to a relationship in a healthy way. It looks different for every couple. Take the time to get to know your partner and actively seek to meet their needs in a healthy way.

Is It That Hard to Be Nice?!

This may be the most important tip you will read to ensure that your partner won't run. Does anyone want to come home to someone who is a nag, crabby, or otherwise unpleasant? If you can turn on your nice face for a friend, you can do it for the love of your life. Treat your partner at least as pleasantly as you would your friends and family. Yes, everybody has normal and healthy stress and a partner can help you process that. You should, however, have other coping skills in place to protect your relationship. When a partner becomes your sole target of vitriol, or your dumping ground for stress, they are sure to eventually run.

Keep Things Fresh

Over time, every relationship goes through adjustments. The new love mellows out into a comfortable partnership, for example. However, that doesn't mean that you should neglect the little things that show that you value your partner. If you don't want to push your partner away, stop treating them like a roommate! Make a concerted effort to feed your romance. Take weekends away; buy them little presents; bring flowers occasionally. These small gestures indicate that your partner holds a special place in your life, irreplaceable by anyone else.
