The popularity and acceptance of self employment has grown massively, particularly in the last few years. This is primarily because of the fact that more and more people are seeking financial independence which is not possible when working under another employer. In addition to this, there are several other benefits of this kind of practice to the employer, such as not having to set aside large funds for employees' national insurance plans, pension contributions and sickness and holiday payments.

In addition to the advantages that accrue to the employer, the employee can also gain several of these benefits through self employment. Moreover, they are also able to claim expenses such as wages of family members, and other household and traveling expenses that are incurred on a daily basis. Another major benefit for the employee is that there is a greater degree of cash flow. The income they receive is not taxed from its source, which results in a higher level of disposable income that is left over for the person to spend on his everyday needs.

The law concerning any kind of employment dictates that there is an underlying difference between people who are self employed and those who are working under another employer on a contract. A person who is performing services out of duty or obligation to another person cannot gain extra profit or incur any losses due to the activities that he has been obligated to carry out. On the other hand, when it comes to the self employed, they can gain extra profits by directing their activities wisely, and also face the risk of incurring losses if they fail to do so.

Although people under the bond of self employment are more vulnerable to risk, they can earn a much higher as the financial concept dictates. Moreover, they have the freedom t work at their own will, and take up a contract they like and decline ones that they do not like. If it were a simple employee, he would probably get fired for declining a task that was offered to him. To be more precise, there is no mutuality of obligations when it comes to the self employed.

When you are working under a contract of self employment, you would normally be required to possess the tools and anything else that is required for you to carry out the entire job to completion in an effective manner. There is a drawback of the absence of any minimum acceptable level of work standards, but the self employed have the choice of option out of this. However, they should remember that there is no legal protection offered to them in case of failure to abide by the minimum work standards.
