Are You Killing Your Pet With Your Cigarette Smoke

By:

Cigarette smokers that do not have children at least never have to worry about feeling guilty about smoking in the home. They figure that it is alright to smoke in the house since there are no children inside for the smoke to affect. While this is true enough, if they have pets they are still causing damage to them because of secondhand smoke.

Most people that have pets like cats, dogs or birds, really care about them and could spend a lot of money pampering and spoiling them. They probably shell out their cash for veterinarian bills from time to time to keep them healthy. What is sad is that if the owner smokes tobacco and smokes near the pet in the home, they could be slowly killing that pet just like they would be affecting a child or another house member.

Many pets such as small breeds of dogs are very allergy sensitive to begin with. Even if the pet a smoker has is not allergic to much in the beginning, they could develop an allergy to the cigarette smoke over time. They might experience coughing and wheezing just like the smoker will after they have been smoking for a long time. Just imagine that you are bird trapped in a cage inside a home and the owner is constantly blowing their smoke all around. It can be really suffocating for it to even draw a clean breath.

You have to take the health of your pet into consideration when you smoke just as if you would for another person. At least this is what you should do if you care anything about the pet at all. Learn to smoke outside or at the very least use a vent. Never smoke when you have your pet with you in your vehicle because this is even worse.

Being considerate to your pet is not that difficult. You just have to treat them like they were any other person you might be around and try to keep your cigarette smoke to yourself. This is exactly what your veterinarian would advise you to do. If you can not break your habit of smoking inside the home, then it might be the kindest thing you could do for your pet if you simply let it live outside if possible or even find it a new home besides your house It would be better to give your pet to a non smoker than to slowly kill it along with yourself because of tobacco smoke.
