Maybe the house needs some repairs, for example the roof might need repairing or the landscape might need some tidying up. But having to do many reapirs on the home might be to your advantage, because the price of the house can be reduced quite a bit.

If you are someone who is on the lookout for foreclosed properties, many mortgage institutes file a notice of default that can be seen by the public. You can also check out many web sites, real estate agents, or brokers to look for the houses.
Once you locate the foreclosed house you intend to buy, you can look at the public records and see if there is anything wrong with the property.

Another possibility could be checking out bank owned foreclosed homes. Their might be fewer risks. For example, there shouldnt be nay tenants, not many problems with the property and no due taxes that you have to pay.

How foreclosed homes are priced is quite simple. They are mainly sold at the price closed to the assessed value. Also the neighboring property values are also looked at, and so is the amount of work that is need on the home in question. This can either be to your advantage or disadvantage, so dont think just because its a foreclosed home you can get the house at a really cheap rate. The price will be determined on the value of the home.
