Are You Awesome Or Awsome?

By:

According to Google, people from the United States search for the word awesome 3,350,000 times a month. They also search 368,000 times a month for the word awsome. Seeing these statistics made me research a bit more. I came across a few debates on what is the correct form of the word awesome (or awsome).

Which one is correct then? Awesome or awsome?

The method I used to find out for myself which should is the correct spelling is described below. I might be wrong, but look at the facts and decide for yourself.

If you look up the word awesome in the dictionary (http://www.mydictionary.co.za/word/awesome.html) you will see that is the correct way to spell it. Awesome.

When you lookup the word awsome in the dictionary (http://www.mydictionary.co.za/word/awsome.html) though, you will notice it just refers you to the word awesome. Take note that not all dictionaries agree with this, and out of the three dictionaries that contain the word awesome, only one contains the word awsome.

So to me that means that if one out of three dictionaries think awsome is correct and two out of those three think it's wrong, I'm going to go with the majority here. I'm not just basing the facts on those three dictionaries though. I search the Internet and compared results from other dictionaries as well. It turns out that about 72% of the dictionaries I made use of just have the word awesome in there and 28% of them have both the word awesome and the word awsome in there.

Some people would say that both are correct, but it's general consensus that those people are in fact morons. The fact that the word awsome even appears in the dictionary just shows you that the world has become stupid. It might just be a reference to the word awesome, but the word awsome doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the dictionary because it's not a word.

I specifically only looked at the United States search results, because I am assuming that at least 90% there would know to speak English. If we take that fact into consideration, 10.98% of people in the United States cannot spell the word awesome. I suppose that isn't too bad a statistic, but it still worries me that if just under 11% people can't spell a simple word like awesome where are we heading?
