Are Transit Times Quoted By Courier Companies Guaranteed? The Answer Is, Possibly

By:

Courier services across the country do their utmost to achieve on-time delivery, every time. But nothing is guaranteed all the time. A perfect picnic, guaranteed to please picnickers, might have ants or rain; a perfect movie, loved by every viewer, might have the film break or the theater catch fire. No absolute guarantees of anything exist.

That being said, all courier services offer transit times with a level of guarantee, and that level is, circumstances permitting.

If one considers the reality of the situation, the phrase circumstances permitting is the best anyone can offer on anything for a guarantee of performance. A CEO cannot guarantee his business day will be a complete success, a paycheck amount cannot guarantee that a man will meet his expenses and a boy scout cannot guarantee any old lady gets across the street.

There are two main obstacles to a perfect guarantee of transit time.

The first is the weather. Unexpected storm fronts, both with snow and rain, can ruin driving conditions for several hours; some states see days of traffic freeze up and business loss if the blizzard is severe enough. Delivery services have the same problem: if roads are impassable, freeways barricaded or streets too icy or wet for travel, the transit time is compromised, and a guarantee would be useless. The on time every time experience, while it is a legitimate goal that a delivery service strives for, simply cannot happen every time.

The second problem rests with delivery vehicles and drivers. Even the best driver in the best vehicle can have difficulties: a flat tire, a broken fan belt or a road accident that necessitates the driver stopping. The driver is bonded, insured, licensed, and the best in the business; the vehicle is in top operating condition. But a stop is still necessary.

The driver may need to rearrange packages, end his route because the van is not drivable and even call in for a backup delivery driver. All of these circumstances mean lost time, and a guaranteed transit time is something that driver cannot fulfill either.

Even 60 minute speedy deliveries are not guaranteed; there are too many things that can go wrong in an hour. Any courier does his best to avoid and get past these unfortunate slowing circumstances, but they are always unavoidably there, right in the middle of the business day.

That is why no courier company offers an absolute guarantee of transit time. But all couriers do their best to fulfill it.
