Tanning beds are becoming popular, and you might have considered trying one if you like that suntanned look. But there are several questions that you will want to consider before you try out your local salon.

1. General information on tanning Salons:

Indoor tanning is popular because it can be the same regardless of the weather or time of year, and you also don't risk getting too much sun. But they also use the same principle as regular sunlight, using UV rays. They don't, however, use the C waves which are considered to be the most dangerous.

Types of Tanning Beds

CLASS A: The most advanced type of tanning beds are classified as class A. Its advantage is a much faster tan, and increased comfort during the tan. These beds produce more UVA and less UVB for better, safer tanning

CLASS B: These beds also offer a fast tan like Class A, perhaps about half as fast. Only one to two sessions are usually needed to maintain the tan.

CLASS C: These beds are just slightly above the basic-level bed, which requires usually up to 2-3 times more exposure to keep a tan. Often additional lamps and facial or cream tanners are used for increased results.

CLASS D: This is the basic-level bed. They may require four sessions a week to maintain the tan and up to ten sessions to achieve the desired results.

2. Tanning bed facts

As mentioned, Tanning beds emit UVA rays, which cause the tan but also contribute to things like aging and perhaps cancer. In fact the FDA has expressed concern about the amount of melanin in the skin after a tanning session. The risks of such exposure, aside from skin cancer and wrinkles, include retinal damage to the eye and possible immune suppression disorder. Certainly, continuous and frequent use of these beds is not encouraged.

But there are some important safety regulations that each bed should have, particularly in the type of bulbs they use. Bulbs should use a timer so that potentially dangerous exposure is limited. Have a label containing the distance of the individual from the sunlamp, to risk that they will be overexposed. They should also carry a warning about the harms of overexposure, especially to those who might be particularly Sensitive.

They should regulate the quantity of short UV radiation waves to an individual, and provide information on proper usage,

For your additional safety, be sure and pay attention to recommendations from National Medical Professionals about exposure to either the sun or indoor tanning machines.

3. Tanning Accessories

Often when going to the tanning salon a few items are used to heighten the experience. Usually, protective eyewear is worn during tanning to protect the eyes during the sessions. UV light can penetrate the eyelids and law requires tanning salons to provide the eyewear for you.

In addition, there are tanning lotions or accelerators that are used. Along with providing nourishment that aid I general skin health, some elements can heighten tanning through increasing the production of melanin.

4. How to Choose a Tanning Salon

Since there are so many types of salons that offer so many bed choices, it can be hard to choose. But some are better than others, and the cheapest is not necessarily the best, so there are some things to consider.

In general, a good tanning salon would naturally have good customer service. The atmosphere and staff should be professional and welcoming. You can evaluate customer service without committing to an appointment by visiting the place and asking for a tour of the facility. You can evaluate staff equipment and cleanliness, and make sure they follow regulations such as providing standard protective eyewear.

As you ask those questions, you should be able to note customer service as they have friendliness in answering and their level of knowledge as you take your tour and ask questions, which they should show confidence in answering, They should make you feel welcome, making time to explain all their procedures, and not hurry you through just because you aren't their customer yet.

One of the things they should discuss with you are recommendations about your personal skin type and what type of procedures would be best. If you've never tanned before they should take you to the beginning and tell you what to expect.

As you tour, take a look at the general cleanliness of the store and general maintenance of various items, as that will probably reflect the quality of the tanning equipment. Also, ask to see inside one of the tanning beds to see if it is kept clean.
