Are Steel Buildings Sturdy?

By:

You are in a dilemma. You need to build a house but you still can not decide on whether to use conventional materials or to go for steel buildings. Making an investment, as in this case, building your house warrants thorough thinking. Since money spent for constructing a house requires a substantial amount of money, you would definitely want your house to last for a lifetime.

You are still unsure on what to choose. Questions like which kind of construction is stronger, durable and cheaper lingers through your mind. After all this is an investment and you want to make sure that you are making the right decision. The best way to tackle this problem is to do research.

Over the years, using steel or metals in any form in building construction has increased tremendously. Steel has been used since time immemorial but the undeniable practicality of steel buildings has just been recently actualized.

Wood used to be the preferred material in the construction industry. However, this was only during the time when there were no logging restrictions enforced. Because of environmental restrictions, people are now choosing steel over wood. Steel buildings are now widely accepted and better appreciated.

The speed by which steel buildings are installed makes one question the strength of steel. We have grown to believe that any structure that has been constructed in such a short period of time is not at all sturdy. We have come to believe that the longer the time spent in the assembly, installation and completion of a structure meant that the structure is of good quality and strong. But this is not true anymore. This impression was all changed by the technological advancements in steel buildings.

Steel without a doubt is stronger than wood. It can withstand any kind and form of inclement weather better than wood. Furthermore, steel can better tolerate the structural stress imposed on it by earthquakes, snowfall and wind.

Steel buildings aside from being assembled and completed faster than buildings of wood also have a lower cost. Because steel buildings are made out of light weight materials they are easily transported. They are also considered to be low maintenance. Worries about termite infestation, rotting and warping are never an issue. Since steel buildings are considered low fire risks, insurance premium payments are therefore reduced.

Thus, it can be clearly seen that steel buildings provide a better alternative to wood structures in terms of strength, durability and costs. Another great thing about steel buildings is that they can be recycled. Any scraps and cuttings that may occur during the construction phase may be sold.

Just think about constructing a 2,000 square feet home that uses wood. It would need about fifty trees. Using steel buildings for the same structure would not harm a single tree at all. So why not use steel building construction instead of wood. This way you conserve the earth and still enjoy the safety and security of your house provided by the use of steel buildings.
