Are Petty Arguments Destroying Your Relationship

By:

What is going on when you and your partner can not get through one single day without arguing about something? That can be a difficult question to answer sometimes. It might not matter what the subject at hand is, does it seem like the two of you can never agree on anything? This is one of the leading causes of relationship failure and there can be many different reasons for it. When arguments are taking place over every little thing, it is usually not what is being argued about precisely, but often there are underlying issues that are at the root of the problem.

How can you tell if you are really arguing about the issue at hand or if it is something else? Well, if one of you is a very neat person and the other is rather messy, this is one thing that can cause a couple to argue. If one person likes to go out a lot and the other is more of a home body, you might argue about that frequently. These kinds of differences in personalities are common and couples can bicker about them often without ever really resolving them. If you love each other enough, with small issues like this you should be able to find a way to compromise and move on.

When it could be a bigger issue involved is when you are angered easily by almost anything your partner does or if any little thing you do angers them. If you are late getting home and it was for a valid, understandable reason and they just can not let it go, it might be that they think you were doing something other than what you said. This could be showing a lack of trust in you on their part. They might not want to come right out and say that they do not trust you, but the way they react to the situation could be saying more than they are willing to verbalize.

When you find that you and your partner are getting into a pattern of constant arguing, it is time to sit down together calmly and try to sort it out. If you continue to butt heads and can not seem to make any progress, it could be time to seek intervention. This might mean that you could invite an unbiased friend, and they would really have to be a true friend, to play mediator between the two of you. Sometimes when an outsider has a good indication of what is going on, they might be able to help you see some things that you both could be missing.

If this is not the answer because things have just gotten much more serious, then you should see a professional counselor if you truly want to resolve the issues between you and salvage your relationship. Even when you are both deeply in love with one another, constant arguing and disagreements can slowly but surely deteriorate the relationship until there might not be anything left to negotiate.
