Are Green Homes Considered Old Or New Ideas?

By:

While many people have an idea that green homes should seem like they came out of a science fiction movie, there are those designers and architects that beg to differ. Designs from architect were coming out revealing homes which could make old homes more comfortable but utilizing systems that are old.

A prime example could be the installation of timber for frames of homes. With studies that show the thatched roof so favored in the past and so disdained in the near past the best for the extreme weather in our climate, there are actually others that are returning to that quite quickly.

Tree farms now produce the timber frames for these homes.

There are plenty of more options for greening the green homes as could be revealed by the interior designs.

First of all, most would note that old homes were built with low ceilings, some not going more than three meters. While these were the cozy cottages of old that were, and still are, beloved by many. It was the mansions that had to possess lit fireplaces on a regular basis for it was harder to manage the draft, however the small cottages only needed one stove to heat up the whole house.

If you will need to through a remodelling, do not forget- you do not need to get rid of the brick lined walls on the outside and do not be fooled by the contractor that advises this. While you'll be able to have more room without that extra wall and just added support columns, these double walls provide you with the best insulation you may buy. As a rule, these walls were stuffed with whatever materials they may use like sand and gravel but today insulation materials are used.

People of the Victorian era did not like stuffy homes when in fact this was not! This was the time when there was a resurgence in the use of public spas, and they advocated plenty of sunlight and fresh air. While floors were stripped of carpets to the highly polished wood, windows were also made bigger to allow light and sun inside.

When improving your home, you may want to tack on an addition. The additional room could become another bedroom or you may turn it into a sun room with wide open windows to let the sun in. A favorite of several generations ago, the sun-room could be a way that you can regulate the heating and cooling of your home without electricity.

Heat from the sun goes through the glass panels to be quickly absorbed by the bricks which will collect the warmth only to release it at nighttime when the temperature drops. There is always a breeze that rises even on the hottest days and this will be admitted by simply opening the windows of the craft room.

The craft room can have some plants placed in it as there's enough light and they'll serve to filter the air and generate more oxygen. Nothing can be greener than plants that are nature's defence against pollution!
