Are Generalized Anxiety Disorders Really Real?

By:

People with GAD worry about all of the normal things like they or their family's health, well being, money, relationship or job. It is perfectly normal to worry a little bit about these things. Worry is a helpful emotion because it drives us to take action to avoid consequences or the pain of the worry. Those that suffer from generalized anxiety disorders find themselves unable to make the transition from worry to action. Instead of looking for another job or finding ways to make themselves more valuable in their current job, they will obsess about losing their job.

This cycle is dangerous because the perpetual worry or fear sometimes contributes to the manifestation of the actual event. Using the job example from above, the person with generalized anxiety disorders production or quality of work may decrease due to the worry. So they end up losing their job because of the declining performance.

Oftentimes, the things generalized anxiety disorder sufferers worry about are unfounded and irrational. Generalized anxiety disorders have stumped medical professionals. They can treat the symptoms, if the symptoms are recognized by the patient and diagnosed properly by the doctor. The symptoms could mean so many other things, further complicating diagnosing generalized anxiety disorders.

Some of the symptoms of generalized anxiety disorders are headaches, fatigue, restlessness, nausea, muscle tension or appetite changes. Heck, stress or exhaustion could also cause these symptoms. How is a person to know how to proceed? The best way is to track frequency. How often do these symptoms occur, or is it a perpetual state?

Treatment for generalized anxiety disorders begins by ruling out the possibility of other anxiety disorders. When you become aware of the symptoms, track their frequency so you can tell your doctor. What you want to avoid is an unsuccessful visit to the doctor. By unsuccessful I mean you, the patient not being able to tell the doctor what hurts. Doctors use symptoms to help figure out treatments, so you must be specific with the symptoms.

If you think you or someone you love might be suffering from generalized anxiety disorders, seek help immediately. Many sufferers are not even aware that GAD is a disorder, or that it can be treated. They tell themselves they are just a worrywart, and take no action. Not surprisingly, the condition gets worse. Do not let this be you, or happen to someone you love. With treatment, medication, or a combination of both, most people with generalized anxiety disorders live long, happy and healthy lives.
