Are Eggs Bad For You? Will They Make You Fat?

When you have read this article you will understand how wonderful a food eggs are. You will realise that we have evolved to eat eggs and they are really good for us. And they are unlikely to make you fat!

For years we have been getting the message that eggs are fattening and are bad for you. It is still a myth that it is bad for you to eat an egg a day and it is still believed that more than three eggs a week will cause you to have high blood cholesterol and your arteries will start clogging up.

These ideas go back to the 1960's when they started making eggs substitutes and started to accuse eggs of being the cause of heart diseases. The question to ask here is what came first, the substitute or the evidence of the egg connection. This evidence was simply not true. If you like the conspiracy idea, then, of course, there is more money to be made from an egg substitute than from eggs as a pure food.

Eggs are a very simple basic food that has been available to us since before the stone age, most probably a favourite protein source that has had its part in the development of man. Eggs would have been easy to collect along with the vegetables and seeds that were part of the prehistoric diet. We have evolved over thousands of years to be able to eat eggs. So how can they be bad for us?

Eggs are an inexpensive source of high quality protein that almost everyone can enjoy in many ways. They can be used for breakfast, but can be enjoyed for lunch and dinner and inbetween meals in cakes!

Protein Quality is measured by the availability of that protein to effectively promote cell growth, and this is known as biological value. Based on the amino acids in an egg and its ability to stimulate growth, egg protein is second only to mother's milk when you are talking about human nutrition.

Furthermore, they are powerhouses of nutrition. For example, eggs are one of the few natural sources of Vitamin D and K and these are known for their protection from cancer and that they help longevity. Eggs also are the highest source of dietary choline which helps to develop the nervous system and structural integrity of cell membranes and is especially necessary for brain delvelopment in infants to impart lifelong enhancement of memory and attention.

An egg contains about 6 grams of high quality protein and 5 gramsof fat, an even balance of saturates and monosaturates, less polysatuarates and hardly any carbohyrates. You can even buy designer eggs with as much as 200mg of DHA, essential omega 3 fatty acid that is needed for nomal development and fundtioning and something that is needed in the prevention of depression and memory loss. Also an egg contains lutein and zeaxanthin which are both super antioxidants that ensure good health and can prevent age related blindness.

So eggs are really not as bad as their reputation. They are a whole natural food that we have been eating for thousands of years with nothing processed about them that can upset your body.
