Are Courier Drivers Insured And Bonded?

By:

There is obviously concern that arises on the part of a business when they have to put their goods into the hands of a third party. They have invested significant money into their product which is only going to pay off if the product reaches the customer in good shape, and so they have to trust that value into the hands of a middle man, the courier driver in most instances. That is why when shipping anything with a New York courier service, a business might have questions about the status of the drivers working for that courier company, as they are going to be the ones responsible for the safety of the packages or products in question.

One thing many people want to know is if the drivers for a courier company are insured and bonded, and they almost always are. Insuring and bonding drivers helps to protect not only their customers, but also the courier company themselves, so most are extremely diligent about making sure that this takes place.

If you ever hear about a courier that doesn't have fully insured and bonded drivers, then you would do well to simply stay away from them, because they probably aren't going to offer you the kind of safe and reliable service that you want for your cargo. Insurance should actually be among the top concerns for a courier company, simply because there are so many variables at play when your business is essentially on the road all day every day. They should, and most do, have insurance on all of their vehicles and drivers which is of the most comprehensive type available based on the laws of the state that they are based in. They will also carry a type of secondary insurance which is exclusive to the courier industry and protects the value of the goods of their customers in the event that they become damaged somehow, such as through theft, weather, or through a vehicle accident. Their drivers in most cases must be bonded to make all this insurance possible.

Don't be afraid to ask a courier company about both their insurance status and their policy of bonding drivers. This is something that you as a customer have every right to ask, and if they are a company that is worth doing business with they should be happy to share this information with you in order to reassure about the quality of their company.
